# BLS BED showcase

Question: For the latest common BLS three-month period (2025-12), which covered areas have the largest private-sector gross job gains minus losses, and how do their gain/loss rates compare? Earlier common periods remain available in the CSV for trend context.

This public derivative joins the official BLS Table 6 (gross job gains and losses) with Table 7 (gross job gain/loss rates) by period and geography. It contains 270 joined rows across 5 periods and 54 BLS geographies per source table. Table 6 values are full job counts; Table 7 values are percentages. The featured ranking covers the 50 states plus the District of Columbia (51 state/DC components) and excludes the United States aggregate, Puerto Rico, and Virgin Islands.

The featured ranking computes `net_job_change = gross_job_gains - gross_job_losses` in the latest common period, 2025-12. Earlier common periods remain in the CSV for trend context.

| Texas | 95872 | 5.6 | 4.9 | 0.7 |
| North Carolina | 38528 | 6.0 | 5.1 | 0.9 |
| Tennessee | 29386 | 6.2 | 5.2 | 1.0 |
| Pennsylvania | 24918 | 5.1 | 4.7 | 0.4 |

## Evidence and limits

- The pack uses exactly two official source tables (BLS Table 6 and Table 7) collected through Collabysis WebLink with robots checks, no account, no fallback reader, and a two-page bounded budget.
- Net job change is computed by subtracting Table 6 gross job losses from gross job gains. Rate spread is Table 7 gain rate minus loss rate in percentage points; no rate-to-count conversion is applied.
- Seasonal-adjustment caveat for 2025-12: the Table 6-derived U.S. net job change is 593,000, while summing the 50 states plus the District of Columbia gives 604,890. BLS independently seasonally adjusts state and national series, so this 11,890-job difference is expected, not a data error.
- Counts are parsed as full jobs rather than thousands. Suppressed cells retain their source marker and are excluded from arithmetic and ranking when numeric inputs are unavailable.
- These are reported private-sector job flows for covered establishments; they are not employment levels or per-capita rates.
- The ranking is descriptive and does not establish causal effects, forecasts, or sampling uncertainty.
- The CSV is a derived analytical dataset. Source HTML remains private; the CSV carries official URLs, opaque raw references, response digests, and source record IDs for local review. Parser identity and collection metadata are recorded in manifest.json.
